Laments of a Mason’s Wife

How many wives of Masons
Have ever given thought
To the wonderful lessons
That Masonry has taught?

Have you ever asked this question
“Is my reasoning straight and right?”
While your husband’s gone away to Lodge
And you’re left alone all night

My nights are sometimes lonely
But this question comes to me:
If my husband weren’t a Mason
What kind of man would he be?

Friends call me a Masonic Widow
I’ve been one for many a year
I’ve spoken out on lonely nights
And berated hubby dear

But often I regret my words
Gain wisdom, as I see
If my husband weren’t a Mason
What kind of a man would he be?

And so, I am a patient wife
Who’s alone at night,  my fate,
When hubby leaves for lodge with
“Honey, I won’t be late.”

It’s said Men make Masonry
Agree? I do not think I can
Because in my head and heart I know
That Masonry makes the man

So as he and I journey together
Through our happiness of life
I pray Masonry forever endures
Sincerely – A Mason’s wife
